Hi! My name is Kaya.
For as long as I can remember, everything I do revolves around reuse. With the increasing availability of fast fashion, which caters to trends, "upcycling" has become a term that can't be ignored. And rightly so!
By establishing Studio Dingen, I aim to highlight this by transforming items that are "old" and "out" into something "new" and "trendy."
Not just with clothing that's "out," but also, for example, a garment that's dear to you, an item that belonged to someone who's no longer here, or a favorite piece of clothing that your little ones have outgrown. This way, you don't have to say goodbye to the item, but instead create new memories with it!
Typical millennial...
After a career in Communication, I decided to make a switch and turn my hobby into my profession. I made this official in July 2024 by registering under the name Studio Dingen.
Why "Dingen"?
This translates to 'things'. In 2019, I started as @kayamaaktdingen (kaya makes things) on Instagram, a passion project to share my creativity.
Like most creatives, collecting hobbies has become a hobby by itself. Pottery, painting, crocheting, punch needling, jewelry making—everything has come and gone and comes back every now and then. There are so many fun things!
Sewing has always been the common thread (no pun intended). I kept developing my skills and new tools and applications kept emerging. The fun part is that I can do many different "things," and I love applying this knowledge to my projects and orders.
My mission
Since I've always been focused on sustainability in the fashion industry, with Studio Dingen I aim to reuse materials. But most importantly, I prefer not to keep this to myself! That's why I share my creations online, sell items in stores, offer my expertise for custom projects, and give upcycle workshops and lessons. This way, everyone has the chance learn new skills and make direct or indirect use of existing materials to contribute to a better world.
